OFFICE BUILDING DOLINGADREEF, AMSTERDAM
DESIGN FOR A COMPLEX OF OFFICES AND PARKING ON THE CORNER OF THE BIJLMERDREEF AND DOLINGADREEF IN AMSTERDAM THE SOUTH-EAST
The complex consists of three parts:
1. The slope: A slowly rising slope with parking below, deals with the 4.5 meters difference between the Bijlmerdreef and ground level. On this slope is a lush public garden. This surgery hides the parking and creates a smooth connection between ground level and the extended city boulevard
2. The glass box: a wide rectangular glass box, two storeys high, with lobbies and patios, anchors the ensemble in its location as it is aligned with the city boulevard and Dolingadreef. Here lies the entrance of the building.
3. The snake: A snake-shaped volume of offices weaves through the glass lobby. The height of this upper layer ranges from 5 to 11 floors and acts as an accent to the Dolingadreef. This volume cantilevers over the glass box, giving the complex striking plasticity. The superstructure is clad with a skin of screen printed glass.
The large projecting volume defines a square for the building, here the entrances to the complex and drop-off are located. The square runs through the building: from the lobby, into the courtyard so there are views from the road diagonally through the building. Through a passage the shopping area of the complex is reachable from the Amsterdam port. A monumental staircase leads to the square, and stabs into the residential area. Large X-shaped elements form the structure for the ganzenhoef path, and ensure maximum transparency.
